ITTY BITTY has been a miracle dog. Originally a healthy puppy until she was 5 months old, she started not eating then. NO local vet could tell us what was wrong; in fact they suggest putting her down - but really couldn’t give us a reason why. Many nights I spent up about four times a night for three months, getting up, making her puppy formula mixed with baby rice and then force feeding her through a syringe. At one point, I had to even force water her. The experience was the equivalent of having another baby and in all honesty that was the amount of attention and care she got. When she did start eating again, we fed her ham and she ended up with acute pancreatic - so at about 9 months she was 14 oz, not walking and relied on us to feed, transport and clean her. 3 months later, on Science Diet Puppy Bits, she has moved up to 1 lb and is very mobile. She isn’t quite walking on her own, but she can with assistance. It is still unknown what caused her to not eat, but if your belly hurt all the time, I don’t think you would eat either. Generally, Itty Bitty is well-known community wide and is an icon at WKDZ/WHVO, where I take her into work sometimes. We all pray for her to return to normal soon, but in the meantime we enjoy the wagging tail and doggy kisses. HERE’S TO YOU ITTY BITTY- WE NEVER GAVE UP. |
